Auckland Floods 2023

Auckland Floods 2023

We hope everyone is ok after last night’s deluge in the northern parts of the country. As minds turn to the clean-up, here’s some tips that may help:

  • Make sure you clean and dry your house and everything in it – floodwater can contain sewage and other contaminants
  • Contact your gas supplier if your gas has been impacted by water or debris
  • Wear protective gloves and clothing when cleaning up
  • Keep children and animals away from flooded areas until they have been made safe
  • Remove everything inside such as furniture and bedding and dry them outside if possible
  • Take photos and videos of the damage and anything that needs to be thrown away before starting the clean-up, for insurance purposes
  • Throw out food that has come in contact with floodwater and don’t eat fruit and veggies from garden if the soil has been flooded.

For those in Auckland – there are nine sites around the city where people can dump flood-related waste. For more information, check out: https://ourauckland.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/news/2023/01/disposing-of-storm-related-waste/
